Description

Nissan Skyline GT-R Nismo Z-Tune – Silver – (KSR12005S):

Only 20 Skyline GT-R Nismo Z-Tunes were ever manufactured, meaning their value appreciates, as does the interest they generate.

Nissan and Nismo built the first Z-Tune in 2003, and it was made as a homage to the R34-generation of models. However, by the time Nissan were able to launch the Z-Tune, the R34 had already concluded its production run. Nismo refused to quit, and so they purchased a dozen second-hand R34 GT-R V-Spec models, each with less than 18,000 miles, and they converted them into Z-Tunes.

Comprehensive modifications had to be made. Most notable was the engine overhaul, reworking the RB26DETT with several new parts, including far better turbochargers. Displacement was increased to 2.8-litres, and this allowed the car to produce an alleged 500 horsepower. Numerous bold claims have been made surrounding the Z-Tune’s performance, including a 0-60 miles per hour time of 3.8 seconds, and a top speed of 203 miles per hour.

Each Z-Tune was painted silver, bar one special edition that was coated in a midnight purple livery, and is now worth over $500,000.

The Z-Tune marked two decades of Nismo’s tuning, and so, they were given free reign over how ludicrous they wanted the car to be. Lots of components were borrowed from their very own GT500 race car, and Nismo themselves claimed that neither cost nor production time were considerations, after the question of why each engine was handcrafted had been raised. They demonstrated a further ambivalence to funding with their use of carbon fibre, years before it was fashionable and popular. Making so much of the car out of carbon fibre resulted in a kerb weight of just 1600 kilograms, which was the same weight as a regular R34, however, the Z-Tune had a more luxurious interior, and was almost twice as powerful.

Nismo’s Z-Tune is perhaps the most desirable Nissan around, and the sleek silver model reimagines the style and exclusivity of the car to an immense degree and level of detail.
