About the car:

Production of the 5 Series E34 began at the Dingolfing- Germany, plant in November 1987. The large 188bhp 3.0-litre and 211bhp 3.5-litre 6-cylinder units will be the top of the range for the 530i and 535i. The 524td, the only diesel version, with its 2.4 litre turbo diesel with 115 bhp.

 

September 1992 saw the arrival of the Touring, and a new 6-cylinder diesel presented at the 54th Frankfurt Motor Show. The arrival of the 525tds top-of-the-range turbo-diesel saloon with its 143 hp. The M20 block (introduced in 1978) of the 520i and 525i was replaced in 1990 by a brand new 24-valve engine, with power levels rising to 150 hp for the 520i and 192 hp for the 525i. This increase in power heralded the arrival of the 525iX with its 4-wheel drive.

 

In 1994 the 5 series was restyled. The radiator grille is wider, and the airbag is now standard inside, as is a good deal of equipment. An entry-level diesel model, the 525td, was introduced.

The BMW E34 is the third generation of the BMW 5 Series. It was sold from February 1988 to 1996, when it was succeeded by the E39 type. The upper-middle class car designed by Claus Luthe and Ercole Spada, it is well positioned in the automotive market. Its strong lines and aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of 0.301, made it a comfortable and stable vehicle. For its time, it far exceeded all safety standards.
