About the Car

Rory Byrne designed this Benetton B194 Formula One racing car for 1994 Formula One season.  The engine was a Ford EC Zetec-R V8 730-740 hp with a Benetton transverse 6-speed semi-automatic transmission.  The car had to be redesigned for the season due to the new FIA rules, banning electronic driver aids.  Michael Schumacher had three team-mates who felt the car was difficult to drive.  However, Schumacher won six of the first seven races of the season.  Retired at the end of the season the B194 had eight wins and second place at the Constructors’ Championship.

Michael Schumacher born in 1969 is a German former racing driver who has a joint record of seven World Drivers’ Championship titles.  He joined the Benetton team in 1991.  He drove for Jordan, Benetton, and Ferrari from 1991-2006, then Mercedes from 2010-2012.  When he retired in 2012, he maintained the record for fastest laps (77) and most races won in one season (13).

The 1994 Australian Grand Prix was the sixteenth and final race of the 1994 Formula One World Championship held in November at Adelaide Street Circle, Adelaide, Australia.  The race was won by Nigel Mansell for the Williams-Renault team.  Michael Schumacher came in second and gave him the World Drivers’ Championship.

About the Manufacturer

Minichamps was founded in 1990 as a die-cast car producer in Aachen, Germany under the name of Paul’s Model Art GmbH.   The original company was the Danhausen, a trade company that made 1:43 scale models and sold them over the counter and mail order.  From 1971 to 1993 the company published the famous Danhausen World Model Car Book.  Danhausen was owned by the grandsons of Emma Danhausen – Hans Peter and Paul Gunter Lang.  There was a dispute between the brothers in the late 1980’s.  That is when Paul formed the Paul’s Model Art.  Diecast models were made more for the adult clientele and holding their value was a big question that needed to be answered.  Minichamps’ excellent quality has been noticed by Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Opel, and BMW.
