About the car

This car was part the BMW E9 series that were introduced in 1972. The 3.0 CSL was a homologation special built to make the car eligible for racing in the European Touring Car Championship. 1,265 BMW 3.0 CSL cars were built.

 

The “L” in the designation meant leicht (light), unlike in other BMW designations, where it meant lang (long). The car was able to reach top speeds of 155 mph and accelerate 0 to 60 Miles in 6.5 seconds.

 

The 1976 Grosser Preis der Tourenwagen for Division 2 cars was held at Nurburgring with 52 cars starting. The 4-hour race ended with The BMW 3.0 CSL in first position. The car was driven by the team of Hughes de Fierlant, Gunnar Nilsson and

Claude De Wael.
