Description

Eunos Roadster (Mazda MX-5) – Classic Red – (KSR18031R):

In the Western world, the Eunos Roadster is known as the Mazda MX-5. However, it was produced in Japan between 1989 and 1997.

Largely inspired by the post-war era British sports cars, the MX-5 reignited many people’s interest in roadsters after the demise of cars such as the MG B and the Triumph Spitfire. Today, the MX-5 holds the record for being the best-selling sports car of all time. This is due to its reliability, accessibility, simplicity and good looks.

The Eunos Roadster was unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show on February 10th 1989, and was priced at an affordable $14,000. Making it more accessible certainly made the MX-5 appealing and popular, as previously mentioned.

Mazda fitted the car with an engine codenamed B6ZE, and it was specifically designed for the MX-5. It featured a lighter crankshaft, flywheel and an aluminium sump with cooling fins. Its 1.6-litre engine was tuned to develop peak torque power, and was capable of putting out 105 brake horsepower at 6500 rpm. It could reach 60 miles per hour in 8.3 seconds and had a top speed of 126 miles per hour, however, Japanese Roadsters were limited to 110.

One of the most recognisable features of the Roadster were its retractable headlights, giving the car a more sporty and retro aesthetic, and this is perfectly captured in the model recreation. It’s painted with a classical red shade, accentuating the bodywork and details of the car.
