About the car

This car was built by Italian automobile manufacturer Lancia in order to compete in the FIA Group B World Rally Championship and European Rally Championships in the early 1980s. It uses a rear-wheel-drive layout with a 5-speed plus reverse manual gear transmission. The 037 was the last of its kind in terms of being the only car to retain the rear-wheel-drive layout, as most other subsequent rally cars used a four-wheel-drive system.

The 037’s had a 2 litre 4-cylinder supercharged engine which Lancia chose over a turbocharged engine to improve throttle response and avoid any possible turbo lag. The engine used is based around the earlier used Fiat Abarth 131 rally cars’ engine. The 037 was the last of its kind in terms of being the only car to retain

The Lancia Rally 037 #16 finished in an impressive 3rd position in the 1983 Rally Costa Smeralda behind two other Lancia 037’s. The #16 was being driven by Gianfranco Cunico and his team member Ergy Bartolich.
