About the car

The Lancia Stratos is a sports and rally car made by Italian car manufacturer Lancia. The Lancia Stratos was produced in 1975. It was the first car specifically built for racing.

Its design featured a space-frame chassis, a fiberglass body and a spartan interior with large door pockets. It had a distinctive crescent-shaped wrap-around windshield. This provided maximum forward visibility with almost no rear visibility.

It uniquely had a mid-mounted engine sourced from Ferrari. The engine was a transverse-mounted, 2.4-liter Ferrari Dino V-6 engine. The engine made about 190 hp at 7,000 rpm in street tune, and about 100 hp more in the competition version. It featured a five-speed gearbox.

The car had an acceleration of 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds. It had a top speed of 232 km/h (144 mph).

The Lancia Stratos was extremely successful in winning races. In order to introduce limits, FIA made rules changes beginning with the 1978 season. The 24 valve heads were banned from group 4 competition.  Driven by the Alén/Kivimäki team, the Stratos won the Rallye Sanremo in 1978
