About the Car

Produced by Rover Company, the 1948 Land Rover is a compact British off-road vehicle.  The car was inspired by World War II jeep and was the first mass-produced civilian 4WD car with doors.  The car had a front hand crank.  Rover’s chief designer was Maurice Wills had a plan to produce light agricultural and utility vehicles, similar to the jeep.

About the Brand

The Land Rover, a British brand, was created in 1948 by the Rover Company as a 4WD off-roader.  However, today they are an upmarket luxury sport utility car.  Since 2008 they have been owned by Jaguar Land Rover. In 1951 and 2001 they received a Royal Warrant, meaning that they can advertise that they supply the royal family.  They have also received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.  In 1970 they produced the upmarket 1970 Range Rover.

About the Manufacturer

Minichamps was founded in 1990 as a die-cast car producer in Aachen, Germany under the name of Paul’s Model Art GmbH.   The original company was the Danhausen, a trade company that made 1:43 scale models and sold them over the counter and mail order.  From 1971 to 1993 the company published the famous Danhausen World Model Car Book.  Danhausen was owned by the grandsons of Emma Danhausen – Hans Peter and Paul Gunter Lang.  There was a dispute between the brothers in the late 1980’s.  That is when Paul formed the Paul’s Model Art.  Diecast models were made more for the adult clientele and holding their value was a big question that needed to be answered.  Minichamps’ excellent quality has been noticed by Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Opel, and BMW.
