Description

McLaren Mercedes MP4/21, Lewis Hamilton – (530064418):

McLaren built the MP4/21 for use in the 2006 Formula One season. Adrian Newey was the primary designer for the chassis, and Peter Prodromou and Mario Illien drew up plans for the bespoke Mercedes-Benz engine. The car continued McLaren’s MP4/X line of cars, and was notorious for its head-turning chrome livery combined with dashing red stripes, intended to maximise the car’s visibility and its new sponsor, Emirates. It also featured a characteristic ‘needle-nose’ which was previously used on the MP4/19, two years prior in 2004.

Engine-wise, the MP4/21 was fitted with the Mercedes-Benz FO108S, which was a 2.4-lite V8 capable of producing 750 horsepower at 19,000 rpm.

Before the start of the 2006 season, where in Kimi Raikkonen and Juan Pablo Montoya would be driving the MP4/21, Lewis Hamilton tested it at Silverstone. The car had been two years in the making, and Hamilton was put behind the wheel at Silverstone to test the MP4/21’s handling, acceleration, cornering and breaking. It performed exceedingly well, and before too long; it was competing in the 2006 Championship.
