About the Car

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 was a special built road race car.  It could reach 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and had a top speed of 164 mph.  With an engine as large as a 6.8L, few cars were built for racing.  The car had a short-lived impressive racing career due to lack of suitable tires.  At that time AMG was a small local tuning company.  They modified a damaged car to complete in racing nicknamed the “Red Pig”.

Clemens Schickentanz, born in 1944 is a Dutch racing car driver.  The first important result in his career was placing 2nd at the 1971 24H of Spa in the Mercedes 300 SEL 6.8, his partner was Hans Heyer.  Hans Heyer, born in 1943, is a German racing car driver.  He started kart racing at the age of 16.  The “Red Pig” was driven by Heyer/Schickentanz.

About the Manufacturer

Minichamps was founded in 1990 as a die-cast car producer in Aachen, Germany under the name of Paul’s Model Art GmbH.   The original company was the Danhausen, a trade company that made 1:43 scale models and sold them over the counter and mail order.  From 1971 to 1993 the company published the famous Danhausen World Model Car Book.  Danhausen was owned by the grandsons of Emma Danhausen – Hans Peter and Paul Gunter Lang.  There was a dispute between the brothers in the late 1980’s.  That is when Paul formed the Paul’s Model Art.  Diecast models were made more for the adult clientele and holding their value was a big question that needed to be answered.  Minichamps’ excellent quality has been noticed by Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Opel, and BMW.
