About the car

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (W198) is a two-seater coupe and convertible model of the German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz designed and built by the designer Friedrich Geiger. Marketed from 1954 to 1963 and entered since in the legend of the dream cars, it is for its originality, its technical and aesthetic qualities, that it is considered as the most emblematic of the Mercedes manufactured in the aftermath of the Second World War.

Presented for the first time at the New York Auto Show, the new W198 is a coupe with the same amazing “butterfly doors” as its predecessor. The 300 SL version, built from a successful competition car, is renowned for being the first Mercedes with fuel injection. “300” indicates the three-liter displacement. The terminology “SL” means “super-leicht”: “very light” and weighs 1293kg.

This vehicle can reach a maximum speed of 240km/h and go from 0 to 100km/h in only 8.8 seconds.
