About the Car

The Porsche 911 GT3 is a high-performance, which has a successful racing career.  This car was a customer race car intended to compete in Group GT3 from 2016 on.  It has a 4.0 liter flat -six with 500hp with a six-speed paddle-shift gearbox.  The engineers optimized the center of gravity by using carbon fiber composite material (CFRP) and for the first time had a polycarbonate windshield.

Olaf Manthey born in 1955 is a German former race car driver.  He began racing in 1974 and retired in 1993.  In 1996 he set his business and team, focusing on Porsche cars.  The Manthey Racing team is designated by Porsche AG to race this car in the World Endurance Championship.

The Nürburgring 1000 km was held in Nürburgring, Germany as a sports car endurance race since 1953.  The competition usually took 44 laps.  The inaugural race won by Alberto Ascari and Giuseppe Farina in a Ferrari counted towards the 1953 World Sportscar Championship.  The attendance was disappointing due to no serious German entrant.  The race was cancelled in 1954 due to the Mercedes Benz 300 SLR not being ready.  It was also cancelled in 1955 due to the Le Mans disaster.  However, it did get quite popular in the 1960’s and 1970’s.

About the Brand

Porsche, specializing in high-performance sport cars, SUVs, and sedans, is a German automobile manufacturer headquartered in Stuttgart.  The company is owned by Volkswagen AG.  The company was founded by Ferdinand Porsche along with Adolf Rosenberger and Anton Piech in 1931.  They started out being a vehicle development and consulting company. One of its first assignments was from the German government to design the Volkswagen Beetle, a car for the people.  Using many of the components from the Beetle, the Porsche 64 was developed in 1939.  The Porsche logo is fashioned after the coat of arms of the Free People’s State of Wurttemberg Germany of 1918-1933.

About the Manufacturer

Minichamps was founded in 1990 as a die-cast car producer in Aachen, Germany under the name of Paul’s Model Art GmbH.   The original company was the Danhausen, a trade company that made 1:43 scale models and sold them over the counter and mail order.  From 1971 to 1993 the company published the famous Danhausen World Model Car Book.  Danhausen was owned by the grandsons of Emma Danhausen – Hans Peter and Paul Gunter Lang.  There was a dispute between the brothers in the late 1980’s.  That is when Paul formed the Paul’s Model Art.  Diecast models were made more for the adult clientele and holding their value was a big question that needed to be answered.  Minichamps’ excellent quality has been noticed by Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Opel, and BMW.
