About the Motorcycle

Designed by George Brough in Nottingham England, the Brough Superior SS 100 is a motorcycle first built in 1924.  Advertised as the “Rolls Royce of Motorcycles” each motorcycle was designed for specific customer requirements including the handlebars.  The first engine was a twin-cam KTOR JAP V twin with 4-stud 3-speed gearbox and chain drive.  All bikes were guaranteed to run a top speed of 100 mph.  In 1925 T.E. Lawrence, Lawrence of Arabia, purchased one of the first SS100s.  Unfortunately, he was killed while riding one in 1935.  The 1932 SS100 that he owned is currently privately owned and has been on loan to the National Motor Museum and Imperial War Museum.

About the Brand

William E. Brough has been making Brough Motorcycles since 1908 in Nottingham, England.  His son George Brough was a racer, designer, and showman.  George felt that he could improve on his father’s designs.  Most of the motorcycles were custom built and all were high performance and superior quality.  World War II brought an end to the production of these motorcycles.

About the Manufacturer

Minichamps was founded in 1990 as a die-cast car producer in Aachen, Germany under the name of Paul’s Model Art GmbH.   The original company was the Danhausen, a trade company that made 1:43 scale models and sold them over the counter and mail order.  From 1971 to 1993 the company published the famous Danhausen World Model Car Book.  Danhausen was owned by the grandsons of Emma Danhausen – Hans Peter and Paul Gunter Lang.  There was a dispute between the brothers in the late 1980’s.  That is when Paul formed the Paul’s Model Art.  Diecast models were made more for the adult clientele and holding their value was a big question that needed to be answered.  Minichamps’ excellent quality has been noticed by Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Opel, and BMW.
