The M1 was produced by BMW. Deign was started by Lamborghini which pulled out of the project due to financial issues and finished off by BMW.
The M1’s beating heart was BMW’s 274-hp, 3.5-liter, DOHC straight-six engine, paired with a five-speed ZF manual gearbox. It employs a 3,453 cc (3.5 L) M88/1 petrol six-cylinder engine with Kugelfischer-Bosch mechanical fuel injection and Magneti-Marelli ignition system. The engine has six separate throttle bodies, twin-cams, 4 valves per cylinder, giving the car a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph).
Piloted by the team of – Stuck/Bürger/Lacaud, the M1 finished in 14th at the Le Mans 24-hour endurance in 1980
