About the car
Since 1948, Land Rovers have been manufactured by the British manufacturer Land Rover, based on the American Jeep Willys, they are all-terrain vehicles.
In 1947, just after the Second World War, the Land Rover was designed by engineer Maurice Wilks and his brother Spencer, director of the Rover company. It began production in 1948, with what was later called the Series I.
Originally launched at the Amsterdam show, it was developed for agricultural and light industrial use, employing a steel chassis and aluminum body.
From 1948 to 1951, the Land Rover was available in a single model with a 2.0 m wheelbase and a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 51 horsepower (37 kW).
