About the car
The Tyrrell 018 is the Formula One car created by the British Tyrrell Racing team for the 1989 Formula One World Championship, starting with the San Marino Grand Prix, the second race of the season. The Tyrrell 018 was driven by Britain’s Jonathan Palmer and Italy’s Michele Alboreto, who was replaced by France’s Jean Alesi and finally Britain’s Johnny Herbert.
The Tyrrell 018 made its racing debut at the San Marino Grand Prix, round two of the 1989 Formula One World Championship. Designed by Harvey Postlethwaite and Jean-Claude Migeot, it features a carbon fibre monocoque with no outer bodywork, large pontoons and a front suspension consisting of a single shock absorber with a mini rocker arm and two pushrods.
