About the car
This Formula One car was primarily designed to challenge McLaren and their MP4/2C model, taking over where the FW10 left off at the end of 1985. That particular car won the final three races of the season. The FW11’s most notable feature was the Honda 1.5 Litre V6 turbo engine, one of the most powerful in the world of F1 at the time. It was capable of producing 800 bhp at 12,000rpm, and well over 1,200 bhp at 12,000rpm in qualifying. Additionally, the aerodynamics were ahead of the time, being far superior to the aerodynamic structures of both the MP4/2C, and Lotus’ 98T. Combining this with the excellent driving pairing of Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell made the car an instantaneous hit amongst the Formula One community.

About the Manufacturer
Minichamps was founded in 1990 as a die-cast car producer in Aachen, Germany under the name of Paul’s Model Art GmbH. The original company was the Danhausen, a trade company that made 1:43 scale models and sold them over the counter and mail order. From 1971 to 1993 the company published the famous Danhausen World Model Car Book. Danhausen was owned by the grandsons of Emma Danhausen – Hans Peter and Paul Gunter Lang. There was a dispute between the brothers in the late 1980’s. That is when Paul formed the Paul’s Model Art. Diecast models were made more for the adult clientele and holding their value was a big question that needed to be answered. Minichamps’ excellent quality has been noticed by Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Opel, and BMW.
