About the car

It was developed by Alpina in 1970 as a new lightweight version of BMW’s exclusive 2800 CS coupe, the 3.5 CSL. It was designed specifically to meet the demands of racing and went into production in August 1971. It featured a larger and more powerful engine, a lighter 5-speed transmission, aluminum hood, trunk lid and doors, and stronger brakes. The car also had larger wheels, a sport suspension, and additional aerodynamic parts.

BMW Motorsport quickly upgraded the 200 horsepower two-valve M30 inline six-cylinder engine to a 330 horsepower two-valve M30.BMW Motorsport quickly upgraded the 200 horsepower two-valve M30 to a 400 horsepower two-valve M30 inline six-cylinder engine to a 330 hp M38. Few people know about the 3.5 CSL. It was the car that gave BMW its first major victory on American soil at Sebring.
