About the car
Starting in 1965, the 1800 TI / SA, a competitive sports version of the basic 1800, appeared expressly for motorsport purposes. With two twin-body turbochargers and a higher compression ratio, the car’s engine developed 130 hp and converted this family sedan into a touring race car. The high reliability of this fast four-door BMW model has helped it to achieve numerous international successes. Only a couple of hundred BMW 1800 TI / SA models were built, and therefore are extremely rare today.
Gérard Langlois von Ophem and Pascal Ickx won the 24 Hours of Spa in 1965, after Hubert Hahne and Rauno Aaltonen had finished second in the 1964 TI. In 1965, Charlie Kolb won the Palm Beach event in the SCCA National Sports Cars.
