About the car
As a rear wheel drive, the 740 has a rigid rear axle. This makes it a particularly robust vehicle but with less grip than a car with independent rear wheels. Much was written about the 740 when it was first released in Europe because of its very unusual styling, but over 1.2 million were sold in the 740-760 versions.
The Station Wagon version, with very generous interior dimensions, is the vehicle of choice for second-hand dealers.
Volvo 740 engines are renowned for their reliability, and it is not uncommon to find vehicles with more than 500,000 km on the clock. The 740 has also innovated in a treatment of the metal sheets that protects them from any trace of rust, which was not yet the case for the competition in the years 1985-90. So, the 740 GL is a model of this.
