Johnny Herbert won the 1995 British Grand Prix with Benetton, and he drove the B195, just like his teammate, Michael Schumacher. Whilst Herbert did come away with the victory, the entire race was indeed dominated by a fearsome battle between Schumacher of Benetton, and Damon Hill who was racing for Williams. Hill started from pole position, and he retained his lead during the opening stages of the race whilst Schumacher started losing ground early on. Schumacher recovered intelligently by using a one-stop strategy, overtaking Hill who had taken two pit stops. A few laps passed, and when Hill attempted to overtake Schumacher, he accidentally collided with him, forcing both of them to have to retire from the race. Now Herbert was clear, and after some competition from David Coultard of Williams, he went on to claim the winner’s spot.
Like Schumacher, Herbert wasn’t too impressed with the car at first. He thought it was a little unruly and didn’t corner well, but over time, he managed to master the B195 and go on to record a historic victory at Silverstone.
