About the Car

The BMW MI produced by the German manufacturer BMW from 1978 to 1981 is a mid-engine sports car. The M1 was initiated by Jochen Neerpasch to participate in motorsports and compete with rival Porsche.  He wanted the car to be a mid-engine to outclass his competitors.  BMW partnered with Lamborghini to produce the 400 road going examples of the car in the specified time period as set by the rules.  Unfortunately, BMW took back over the project in 1978 when it appeared that Lamborghini was having some financial problems.  Due to the delay and change of Group 5 rules, the company competed in Group 4 racing.

Hans-Joachim Stuck was born in 1951 in Germany.  He has raced in Formula One and many other races.

He started racing in 1969 at Nordschleife and at the age of 19 he won his first 24-hour race.

The Circuit Zolder is a 4.011 km (2.492 mile) racetrack in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium.  The track was built in 1963 and hosted the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix.

About the Manufacturer

Minichamps was founded in 1990 as a die-cast car producer in Aachen, Germany under the name of Paul’s Model Art GmbH.   The original company was the Danhausen, a trade company that made 1:43 scale models and sold them over the counter and mail order.  From 1971 to 1993 the company published the famous Danhausen World Model Car Book.  Danhausen was owned by the grandsons of Emma Danhausen – Hans Peter and Paul Gunter Lang.  There was a dispute between the brothers in the late 1980’s.  That is when Paul formed the Paul’s Model Art.  Diecast models were made more for the adult clientele and holding their value was a big question that needed to be answered.  Minichamps’ excellent quality has been noticed by Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Opel, and BMW.
