Description
1983 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Cabrio, Black – (100063035):
The 1983 Porsche Carrera Cabrio offered the same platform from an original Carrera, but with open-top convertible bodywork. This of course reduced the quality of the handling just a little, but a convertible is often more desirable amongst roadsters as it offers a far more pleasant driving experience.
Convertibles are obviously heavier than hard-top sports cars. Therefore, they’re usually slower and feel just that little more cumbersome around bends. But they’re built for pleasure, not power. Enjoying a drive with the roof down is what most seek when purchasing a convertible, and the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabrio did this almost better than anything else.
It didn’t have the same rigidity as its sibling, but the experience was considered utterly unique. The 911’s shape was pretty much identical with the roof down as it was with the roof up. Sound-wise alone, the car was considered brilliant, and hearing the roar of the flat-six with the roof down really was something special.
Porsche fitted the 911 with a 3.2-litre engine in 1984, and it was offered in two power outputs, the first being 218 horsepower, and the latter being 231 horsepower.
