Description
Porsche Carrera GT – (12050):
Originally given the codename Project 980, the Porsche Carrera GT is a mid-engine sports car manufactured by Porsche, between 2004 and 2007.
It’s highly regarded as one of the greatest sports cars of all time. Sports Car International named the Carrera Gt as number one on its list of Top Sports Cars of the 2000s, and eight in the list of Top Sports Cars of All Time. It was also awarded the ‘Best of What’s New’ award by Popular Science magazine in 2004 for its incredibly advanced technology and the development and intricacy of the chassis.
The Carrera GT was fitted with a 5.7-litre turbocharged engine, capable of putting out 604 brake horsepower. Acceleration-wise, the Carrera GT could reach 62 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds, and its top speed was an astronomical 205 miles per hour.
With its large side inlets and air dams that help cool the enormous V10, the Carrera is often considered one of the most beautiful Porsches of all time. Inside, the car is trimmed in luxurious, soft leather, and in typical Porsche fashion, the ignition is present to the left of the steering wheel. This originates back to the days of Le Mans racing when drivers had to make running starts.
Additionally, the car was composed of a pure carbon fibre monocoque and subframe. Furthermore, at speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour, the electronically-operated rear wing raises automatically to reduce lift.
