About the car

A two-door coupe built for BMW by Karmann from 1968 to 1975, the BMW CS was developed from the BMW 2000CS coupe based on the New Class. It evolved from the BMW 2000CS coupe based on the New Class, which was enlarged to accommodate the BMW M30 straight-6 engine used in the E3 saloon.

One of the most successful cars in the world, the 3.5CSL was built for Group 5 racing and BMW claimed three races in the 1976 World Makes Championship with this model.

The CSL received in July 1973 a 3.2-litre 6-cylinder engine developing 206 bhp at 5,600 rpm, of which 167 were produced and production ended in November 1975.

Most of the competition versions are derived from this production and are sometimes extremely powerful, as a result of the Motorsport preparations, but also thanks to Alpina and Schnitzer who are very active on the competition scene.
