About the car
The W05 gave Mercedes its first ever Formula One Constructors World Title with its ninth double of the season on 12 October 2014. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton won the drivers title ahead of Nico Rosberg. Both drivers finished the season with a record eleven doubles and sixteen wins.
Designed by British engineer Bob Bell, the F1 W05 was unveiled on 28 January 2014 at the permanent circuit in Jerez, Spain, and is based on the technical regulations in force for this season, including a turbo engine.
As early as the winter tests, the W05 was the best car in the field. The Mercedes AMG F1 W05 features a Mercedes V6 turbo engine, a kinetic energy recovery system with 161 horsepower, a 150 mm shorter front wing and a weight increase of 49 kg. At the top of the sloping nose are two small fins that guide the aerodynamic airflow, a technique that has already been used on the 2008 BMW Sauber F1.08. The engine weighs about 145 kg.
