About the Car

The Mercedes-Benz 2.5-16 Evolution 2 was first shown at the Geneva Auto Show in 1990.  It was fitted with a short-stroke 2.5 L inline-four engine, producing an output of 232hp.  The Evo 2 had a short production of all the 190 series starting in 1990 and ending in 1991.

AMG stands for Aufrecht Melcher Grobaspach who are two of the founders Hans-Werner Aufrect and Erhard Melcher and their birthplace Grobaspach.  AMG is the engine that was on the racing and performance cars at that time.  Now, most Mercedes have that option to have an AMG engine.

Ellen Lohr, born in 1965, is a German race car driver.  She currently competes in NASCAR Whelen Euro Series driving a Chevrolet Camaro.  She is currently the only female driver to have won a German Touring Car Masters (DTM) race.  Driving a Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2, she won the DTM in May 1992 at Hockenheimring.

The Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM), held from 1984 to 1996 was a touring car racing series, originally based in Germany.  In 1984 cars entered by privateer teams under FIA Group A rules.  Though the years, modifications were allowed so that in the late 1980’s work teams joined and became the most popular motorsport championship in Europe.

About the Manufacturer

Minichamps was founded in 1990 as a die-cast car producer in Aachen, Germany under the name of Paul’s Model Art GmbH.   The original company was the Danhausen, a trade company that made 1:43 scale models and sold them over the counter and mail order.  From 1971 to 1993 the company published the famous Danhausen World Model Car Book.  Danhausen was owned by the grandsons of Emma Danhausen – Hans Peter and Paul Gunter Lang.  There was a dispute between the brothers in the late 1980’s.  That is when Paul formed the Paul’s Model Art.  Diecast models were made more for the adult clientele and holding their value was a big question that needed to be answered.  Minichamps’ excellent quality has been noticed by Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Opel, and BMW.
